Australian Woolshed
Gain some understanding of Australia's rural industries and be entertained at the same time in this replica woolshed, situated in natural bushland just a 20-minute drive from the city centre. There are sheep handling displays and sheep-shearing demonstrations accompanied by a commentary on the wool industry. Also on display are native animals, including koalas, kangaroos, wombats and emus.

Brisbane Whale Watching
Brisbane is now being recognized as Australia's premier whale watching destination. Its calm waters provide a sheltered haven for whales to rest and play. Join Brisbane Whale Watching and observe the mighty Humpback playing only metres away. These intelligent and naturally curious mammals will greet you with behaviour that will both charm and inspire you.

Golden Circle
Now open to the public, Goldern Circle offers factory tours at its new tourist centre at Northgate. The Circle Cafe offers tasty meals and daily cooking demonstrations while at Goldern Circle Live! there's a factory outlet where you can buy products, such as pineapple and beetroot, at bargain prices.

Moreton Island
Just over an hour by ferry from Brisbane, Moreton Island is mostly undeveloped and is virtually all national park. On the sheltered western side of the island is the long-established Tangalooma Wild Dolphin Resort where it is possible to hand-feed wild dolphins.

Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens
Only 7km to the west of the city,at the foot of Mt Coot-tha, are the 52-ha Mount Coot-tha Botanic Gardens. Home to over 25,000 plants, themed sections include a tropical glasshouse, a scented garden, a Japanese Garden and an arid zone. Cascades and waterfalls are scattered through groves of terraced rainforest plants. Free guided walks are conducted at 11am and 1pm daily.

North Stradbroke Island
A one-hour ferry ride from Cleveland, Stradbroke Island is perfect for surfing, fishing and horseriding. 'Straddie' as it is called by the locals, is a popular holiday destination. From the Blowhole at Point Lookout you can usually see dolphins and manta rays in the clear waters below, especially in summer, and from July to October you can see humpback whales making their way south.

Sirromet Wines
With it cellar door, award-winning restaurant Lurleen's, winery and vineyard, Sirromet is a great place to escape the city and is less than 40 minutes from the CBD. The winery, established in 1999, can also lay claim to 60 award-winning wines.

Tangalooma Wild Dolphin Resort
Located on the sheltered western side of Moreton Island, this popular resort is one of the few places in the world where you can hand-feed bottlenose dolphins in the wild. A variety of accommodation is available and tours of the island and water sports, such as sailing and windsurfing, are popular. Fast cat ferry services operate daily from the Holt Street Dock, off Kingsford-Smith Drive, Brisbane.
