Brisbane – A Subtropical CapitalQueensland's sub-tropical capital, set on the serpentine Brisbane river, has arrived as an international travel destination. Here, in the capital of the state of Queensland, you will find a wide variety of hotels, restaurants, museums, and other attractions that make Brisbane a fine tourist destination. Also, one of the reasons Brisbane is such a great place to visit is because it has a lovely climate. When you visit you will almost be guaranteed to have great weather and a very mild winter allows great activities like sunbathing, surfing, cycling, and other great outdoor activities. There are so many beautiful gardens and parks that flourish year round and the city is cut by the Brisbane River, making Brisbane aptly known as the City on the River. Take a ferry cruise to get the best views of Brisbane, especially the beautiful houses with amazing locations on the river. There's nothing in the world quite like dining at one the city's riverside restaurants, with a glass of wine, and watching life in this energetic city pass you by. In the evening, the Queensland Performing Arts Complex, home to the Queensland Orchestra, will likely have a performance, while the Judith Wright Centre puts on a range of cutting-edge contemporary music, dance and performance events that are world class. Brisbane's parks and gardens are a haven on a hot day, so stroll the manicured lawns of the City Botanic Gardens, with its river views, or take in the subtropical charm of the splendidly designed Roma Street Parklands. Brisbane is a shopper's paradise. Besides the city centre and Queen Street Mall, there are the vibrant multicultural offerings of The Valley, the arts and crafts of South Bank and the fashionable specialty shops of inner suburban Paddington and Milton. Brisbane is the perfect base from which to visit the nearby Gold and Sunshine coasts, where 120 km of stunning coastal beaches run from Coolangatta to Noosa Heads. The Gold Coast theme parks are great for an entertaining day and the hinterland mountain towns, only an hour's drive from the city centre, are close to pristine rainforests, which are perfect for that short walk and picnic.
