This Week In Sydney Advert

Welcome to Sydney in Winter

Welcome to the autumn issue of This Week in Sydney, with plenty of information on what’s happening in and around Sydney, making it the perfect insider’s guide to the city.

Autumn is a wonderful time to visit Sydney. Temperatures have mellowed a touch since summer, yet the water is still warm enough for a dip at one of our many beautiful beaches and pools. If you’re after something a little more exciting there are heaps of great ideas on the ACTION! pages (12 & 13).

Arriving in a new city can be daunting, so why not get your bearings by jumping aboard one of the Sydney Explorer and Bondi Explorer buses. You can easily hop on and off if something takes your fancy For more information, flick back to page 2.

No doubt you will want to take in a show or two while you’re here, so we have compiled a few highlights, together with an extensive list of what’s on in and around the city. The Sydney Opera House is a great place to start, or you can check out Sydney Olympic Park which always has something to see.

Later in the season, from March 20-April 2, why not pay a visit to the Royal Easter Show, for an in-depth look at real Australian rural life with rodeo competitions and all sorts of animals, food and fun.

The vibrant food scene is an attraction in itself with so many and varied places to wine and dine. Our ‘Where to eat’ section on page 43 caters for all tastes and styles of cuisine.

However you decide to spend your stay, have a fantastic time in Sydney. We know you will.

Introduction to Sydney

Sydney's striking harbour, with twin icons the Harbour Bridge and Opera House, define this vibrant, multicultural city and its culture of the outdoors. The CBD is dominated by office towers, many of which are regional headquarters for international corporations. Take a ferry ride to Manly or Taronga Zoo or join a harbour sightseeing tour to fully appreciate the city's beauty. For a real thrill, and fine views, climb the Harbour Bridge.

Sydney is a city that is easily explored on foot. Start at the historic Rocks precinct, birthplace of the Australian nation, and walk around the harbour foreshore to the Sydney Opera House via Circular Quay. Along the way, stop for an alfresco dining experience and watch the people of Sydney pass you by. The Sydney Opera House has guided tours which take you inside the main halls and the view across to the Sydney Harbour Bridge is quite memorable.

Nearby are the splendid Sydney Botanical Gardens with a large plant collection, rolling lawns, harbour views and an interesting visitor information centre. From the gardens it is only a short walk to the Sydney CBD, and, to the west of the city, Darling Harbour.

Be sure to take a day trip to the Blue Mountains, just two hours drive west of the CBD, for pretty mountain scenery and arts and craft shopping. The Hunter valley, around three hours drive north of Sydney, is one of Australia's premier wine-making districts.

Whatever your choice of Sydney attractions, you'll find all the details within this site. As well, the best Sydney dining, shopping and accommodation options are listed. Finally, be sure to meet the friendly locals and enjoy your stay.
