Welcome to Tasmania in Summer

Welcome to This Week in Tasmania, for all the information you need on what's happening around the state.

First stop off the ferry should be bustling Burnie, where the Makers' Workshop (comprising the Visitor Information Centre, Creative Paper, elements of the Pioneer Village Museum and a cafe, gallery and retail area) has recently relocated to a dazzling new complex right on the waterfront.

Summer is the bumper festival season. It kicks off with Hobart's renowned Taste Festival (Hobart waterfront from 28 December-3 January) and is followed by Launceston's Festivale (City Park, Launceston 12-14 February). Join the crowds and enjoy Tasmania's glorious food, wine and produce.

The season comes to a finale with the popular Clarence Jazz Festival (23-28 February) at a variety of outdoor waterfront, garden and park locations, culminating at Bellerive's boardwalk.

Finally, make beautiful Bruny Island the highlight of your trip, taking in the breathtaking abundance of wildlife and pristine beaches extending from north to south. A must-visit is the newly-opened Art at the Point gallery on Nebraska Beach (Dennes Point), which showcases local artists with a special affinity with local nature and history. Then enjoy lunch in the cafe next door in the magnificent, John Wardle-designed community centre.
