Swan Valley and the Darling RangeWine tastings from the cellar door, great dining options and invigorating bush walks are the main things that bring visitors to the Swan Valley and Darling Range for day trips and short stays. Tall forests, pretty waterfalls and fine mountain vistas are bonus attractions. You can reach the district by car or take a cruise up the Swan River from Barrack Street Jetty. Accommodation in the valley and range includes self-contained cottages, farmstays, camping grounds, and luxury hotels. John Forrest National Park typifies the natural beauty of the Darling Range, and its bush tracks, granite outcrops and waterfalls can best be experienced by embarking on one of the many walking trails. The stunning Bibbulmun Track begins at Kalamunda and runs for 1000 km to the south coast. Mundaring is home to the famed Mundaring Weir which carries water eastward via the Golden Pipeline to Kalgoorlie. The Hills Forest Activity Centre has all kinds of outdoor activities, including canoeing and abseiling. Kalamunda's Zig Zag has fine views towards the city. District picnic spots include South Ledge, above Mundaring Weir, and Lake Leschenaultia. |
